So It Goes

Was a busy month of May by Folk standards. We played two gigs and have things in place for the next batch of recording. Looks like we may be getting in on the festival bandwagon in an unlikely location too ! Details to follow.
Talking of festivals, I was happy to learn that Desmond Dekker had a billing at the Tartan Heart festival Belladrum. However, at the tail end of last week I was saddened to learn of Desmond Dekker's death aged 64. Although he has lived in the UK for over 30 years now, Desmond Dekker was one of the original Jamaican Ska pioneers of the 60's. His popularity, not to mention his influence, crossed to the UK where he bothered the charts several times. His biggest hit was Israelites which he is shown performing here on an early 70's T.V. show. It has also been used on countless ad campaigns. R.I.P.

This week saw the last gig at The Venue in Edinburgh. Although he has an air of flash in the pan about him (no reflection on the man's undoubted talent - just on the fickleness of the media), Jim Noir provided a memorable last performance on the stage. As part of a 5 piece band, his recorded set transferred well live. The set itself consisted of bubble gum pop mixed with with three vocal harmonies. Good stuff excellently played. The last song - complete with ukulele riff - to be played at the Venue was his single My Patch. . On the night the sound was perfect. Not bad for a Tuesday.
